PROGRESSIVE REVERSAL

Updated: Jun 7, 2019

It does not matter where you stand, liberal, conservative, democrat, republican, straight, gay, white, or black, if you look objectively you have to ask yourself if social progress has turned around over the last sixty-five years. The education system is the most obvious example of this U-turn. Desegregation of public schools was mandated by the US Supreme Court through Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. This was a huge victory in the fight against racism for the civil rights movement. Racism, in any form, is deplorable. Where has the education system gone since that landmark decision? On 9/7/2016 the Huffington Post reported that California State University Los Angeles would be allowing segregated dormitories for the black students that request them. “For fall 2016, the school introduced a new choice, the Halisi Scholars Black Living-Learning Community, after the Los Angeles campus’ Black Student Union penned a letter to the university describing racist attacks and “micro-aggressions” that left them feeling unsafe.” Sixty-two years after segregation was adjudicated by the high court to be unconstitutional, these black students are requesting and have been granted segregated housing. Progress didn’t stop there. The Washington Examiner reports on 5/21/2019 that a large number of colleges are now offering optional black-only commencement ceremonies. “A new report by the National Association of Scholars has identified more than 75 schools offering segregated graduations. These supplemental commencement ceremonies are offered in addition to the universities’ regular graduation ceremonies and are not mandatory.” Sixty-five years after Brown v. Board of Education black students can request segregated housing and segregated graduation ceremonies. Don’t forget that these students could have also applied to black-only scholarships. If these were white only dorms, scholarships, and commencements the progressives would have filed lawsuits so fast the ink wouldn’t be dry on the press releases yet. Progress seems to be saying that it is only racism if you are white. Don’t think for a moment that the color of your skin is the only area where progress is making an about face in our education system. Religion has been all but removed from primary schools during my lifetime. Religion wasremoved anyway. The morning prayer was first renamed and then removed. The pledge of allegiance has been challenged in court repeatedly because of the line, “One nation under God.” Several school districts have made the pledge optional. Now Islam is being brought into our public schools. The Washington Post reported one instance on 2/13/2019. Students were “…required to complete a work sheet on the growth of Islam, the “beliefs and practices,” and the links between Islam, Judaism and Christianity. A fill-in-the-blank section included the statement: “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah,” a portion of an Islamic declaration of faith known as the shahada.” First progress fought to end racial segregation in schools. Then reversed the fight to allow racial segregation as an option, but only for black students. Progress fought for decades to remove religion from public schools. Then the fight did an about face to put religion back in schools, but only Islam. These are only two easily documented and current examples of the reversals of the progressive movement to fit the current progressive narrative. Two examples that both fall under the umbrella of education. There are many examples of reversals under many other umbrellas.
