Propaganda Backfire

How the media has changed my opinion of Trump

Progressive propaganda and Trump hatred from the political establishment is having unintended consequences. Sure, continuously calling the president a racist and a nazi makes those with Trump Derangement Syndrome hate him even more. The unintended consequence is how other people see the propaganda.

I am an example of the backfire. I did not vote for Trump. I voted third party. I did not think Trump would be good for the country. In fact, the idea of a Trump presidency scared me a little bit. That was in 2016. Now that I have seen all of the political establishment and the media fight everything he has tried to accomplish with such vitriol, I am convinced that Trump must be doing something right. Abraham Lincoln was vilified by the media and the press fought Ronald Reagan every step of the way. Now, Lincoln and Regan are revered as two of our nation's best presidents.

The inspiration for this article is the fervor with which everyone is calling a recent Trump tweet racist.

"So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!"

Was the tweet politically incorrect? Sure. Was it juvenile? Maybe. Was it unpresidential? Yes. Was it racist? Absolutely not.

President Trump did not get elected because he is a moderate. He did not beat out a score of other Republican candidates by running on the establishment's platform. He didn't upset Hilary with political platitudes. Donald J. Trump is our president because We The People are sick and tired of the corrupt and increasingly progressive status quo.

The anti-Trump bias in the media is comical. Mainstream media tried to convince me that a tax cut was bad. I paid 3% less in federal income tax after that cut. There is no way that is a bad thing. Only three presidents in our history have donated their entire salary. President Trump is one of them, but I've never seen that on the evening news. (Herbert Hoover and JFK were the other two) Major networks wouldn't air Trump's Independence Day celebration, yet those same networks showed their anchors getting drunk and smoking marijuana on New Year's Eve. Investor's Business Daily reports that media coverage of President Trump has been 92% negative. https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/media-trump-hatred-coverage/#

To say that the big networks haven't exactly had a love affair with Donald Trump, as they plainly did with President Obama, is an understatement. A new survey shows that not only is coverage of Trump overwhelmingly negative, but the president's biggest accomplishment — the roaring economy — gets almost no attention.

Instead of the news reporting on President Trump's personality, how about they actually report on his policies? You know, actual news. What if the news reported the news and kept their option to themselves so we could form our own options? It used to be a standard rule of journalism to always present the opposing view by the end of the second paragraph of a story. That rule does not seem to apply to covering President Trump. If the opposing view is covered at all, it doesn't show up until at least the eighth paragraph.

The economy and unemployment numbers have long been a bellwethers for the success of a presidency. Our nation's unemployment rate is at historic lows across all demographics but the major news outlets barely mention that. The economy is experiencing impressive booms, but even when the news outlets do cover that it barely gets a few seconds of air time. Credit to President Trump for these major accomplishments is never offered. My retirement account has certainly seen the benefits even if big media hasn't.

The backfire of this bias has a few forms. My fiance simply feels sorry for Mr. Trump. She can see how slanted the coverage is and she pays almost no attention to politics. I like the president more every time the hyperbolic news media speaks.

Mr. Trump, you have my vote for 2020, thanks in large part to "fake news".
